I like to think of DFA as the Democratic wing of the Democratic party. Like many, I am dedicated to rebuilding the Democratic party in New Jersey. In the 2006 Congressionals, DFA endorsed Carol Gay in NJ4, Linda Stender, in NJ7 & Tom Wyka in NJ11. Tom Wyka has stated he will be running again in '08. When I look forward to '08, one of the glaring problems faced by our DFA candidates in '06 was fundraising.

One solution is for NJ DFA'ers is to set up a PAC.

• Being able to raise money year round, means having cash on hand, ready to be doled out.
• Give our homegrown candidates the financial support they deserve right at the very start, before a primary, and then again after the primaries.
• A DFA endorsement will mean more if its backed up by a check.

I have spoken to a few Essex County DFA'ers, during the last year, about an NJ 4 DFA PAC, all have been in agreement that there is a significant upside to forming a PAC. More recently after the Nov. 1st Essex DFA meeting, I talked the idea up, with this addition: I will save my pennies and later in 2007 write a check for a DFA PAC of $1,000. 3 DFA'ers said "count me in". And let me be clear, I drive a taxi and am currently making about $25,000 a year. If I plan on it, I should have $1,000 saved up by this summer. Is it fair to say that out of the nearly 1000 NJ DFA'ers that there are 50 who can write a $1,000 check by the summer of 2007? Are there 50 more members who can write checks of $500 ?

2007 brings us Town Council, County, State Leg & State Senate races. While DFA supplied staff to many campaigns this season through out New Jersey, DFA can do better. Its time DFA brought home the bacon for its homegrown candidates in the form of timely & significant financial support.

This needs doing.
